Sustainability Visit

What is your name?
"Andrea."

What is your role here at the farmers market?
"I'm that Manager of this farmers market. And I also sell my foods at this stand."

How long have you been coming to Farmers Markets?
"Well ,my family owns a farm, and the first time I was able to help out at my fathers Farmers market I think that I was around 15. I still farm at my family's farm today, that's were all my food comes from. And I started this farmers market about two years ago."

Do you feel that you help not only the enviorment, but also help people become healthy?
"In a way I do feel that I help people make healthy choices when they by my food, and I feel good that I can do something to help the enviorment."

Questions:
1. What struck you about the location you visited? Was it what you expected, or very different?
Well the Farmers market that I visited was in the parking lot of an abandoned school, so I thought that it was a little creepy. But after we walked around a bit it really reminded me of a swap meet. The people that were selling the food, mostly sold fruit and i thought that they would be selling all veggies. And they also sold stuff like jewelry, art supplies, and blankets.

2. Which items were cheaper than you expected? Which were more expensive?
The oranges were really cheep, that surprised my little brother. And the cherry's were the most expensive item at three different stands, but I still bought some.

3. Do you think you will start going to a farmers market more often? Or using a community garden? Or supporting a CSA?
I don't think I will start going to a farmer's market that often, but I will keep it in mind.

4. How do these locations fit into our essential questions of "Why Don't People Live More Sustainably?" and "How Can I Convince them to do So?"
Well people wont try to live more sustainably because they can't afford to buy expensive food. Organic food is kind of expensive, but it is important to eat healthy. We can convince them to do so by giving them information on how it can help them become health, and how it can help your family to become healthy.

School Garden

1. What will happen to the garden during the summer?
They don't know what will happen to the garden during the summer, maybe someone from facilities will check up on it.
2.How hard is it to manage the garden?
Pretty tough.
3.How often do you work on the garden?
We work on the garden on Wednesdays and Fridays. So around like four hours a week.

Reflection

Does this inspire you to start your own garden?
No, but it does inspire me to help my mom with her garden.

Would you like to continue the seniors work?
I think it will be great to keep planting more plants and vegetables. We could make the garden big and may be have a grade lunch with all the food we would grow.

How did the visit change you?
Well the visit tought me that we had a garden, and that it is not that hard to make and maintain a garden.

My Parents Response

So I started to tell my parents about the movie that we were watching in class. I talked about how we got to see how animals were treated and the enviorments that they lived in. They said that they all ready had know about facts like that, and have tryed to change their diet. So I told them about how if they companys that make the meats feed the animals what they eat naturly for a week, the animals would be much healther, and that their would be less problems with the meat. Their responce to this was that people would be healther if big companys started taking cair of the animals and feeding them what their supposed to eat insted of feeding them corn, just so they could make easy money, their would be less problems and people would be healthy.

Dialectic Journal

In My Ishmael the chaptersSchool Daze and School Daze II, we looking at topics that they talk about, Rachel Sokolow, and how Ishmael watched her grow up and start school and how excited she was but as she grew older here interest decreased.
This is one of the quotes that I favor in these chapters.
“People imagine
That they'd like to see their children enter the workplace with really useful business skills, but if they
Actually did so, they'd immediately begin competing for jobs with their older siblings and their parents,
Which would be catastrophic. And if graduates came out of school with advanced skills, who would bag
the groceries, Julie? Who would do the sweeping up? Who would pump the gas? Who would do the
filing? Who would flip the burgers?"
"I suppose it would turn into an age thing."
"You mean you'd tell Johnny Smith and Jennie Jones that they can't have the jobs they want, not
because others are more qualified but because others are older."

Village Savior

Ben Dillard

January 18, 2010

"Darling, could you go and get some water from the well for the day?"

"Yes Papa," a blank look came across her face as she thinks about the day of work ahead of her.

"Oh, and could you pick up your little brother from school after the prayer?"

A look of joy and happiness came upon her face "Yes Papa!" She loved her little brother as if he were her own son. That’s why a question has been in the back of her mind for a while. "Papa?"

"Yes Darling?"

"Shouldn't we be worried about the resent raids of near by villages? I mean, what if we get attacked? What will we do?"

"They know that we are one of the poorest, if not the poorest village, so really we have nothing to worry about. And if they do come, all we can do is hope and pray."

"Ok, Papa." But this feeling inside of her, it was over, whelming. She knows something is going to happen, and it will happen soon.

As they arrived at the temple the prayer began, that same feeling came upon her again. She could feel it, something is pulling her to go, to go and find some one. She turns her head, and she sees a tall dark figure run cross the wide dirt road. The feeling rushed over her again, but this time in different waves. Each one stronger than the last, to the point where she finally stands. The feeling has completely taken over, and its as if she has no control of her body movements. So all she can do is just watch as her body takes her to the place where the dark figure once stood. She looks for any singes of where the figure might be, the heat from the sun slowly warms her face, but with no traces of the mysterious figure she starts to wonders around the village. This small village, this is where she was born, raised and will one day die in. This is her home, and yet she has always wanted to leave, so she could see the world. Her entire life she has always done what others have asked her, and yet she has not gotten her one and only wish, she just wants to see the world.

Then it happened, the one sound that is like the roar of a lion, the scream of death that brings about the cold wave of the reapers hand. The sound of a single gun shot filled the village. She opens her mouth but nothing came out, she ran back to the temple when a whole berage of shots go off. Bright flashes of bright lights and dark red blood cover the windows of the temple. Only one thought goes through her mind, her little brother and the other children at the school. She ran, and ran with a look of calmness and clarity on her face, she was on a mission to save the children.

Before she ran up to the school, she checked to see that no one would see her cross the empty field that the school was built upon. Within three minutes, she was able to gather all of the children and teachers. Now came the challenge of getting them out of the village, quickly they assembled at the back of the school and quickly crept across the field. They silently weaved through the back roads of the village until they finally got out of the village and to the edge of the jungle.

The teachers took the children deeper into the jungle, and Darling was able to finally hold her little brother in her arms. “Yaya, I want you to stay with the teachers no matter what happens. Promise me?”

With a big smile upon his face the words “okay!” came from his mouth with a playful and happy voice. She knew he didn’t understand what was happening, and she knew that one day he would and talk about how brave he was. But right now there was one final task at hand. That is, to save the rest of the village. With one deep breath she ran back into the village, heading for the only radio that the village owned. When she finally got there she flipped the switch and with a calm and quiet voice she began pleading for someone to answer. “ Hello, any one! My village is being raided, many of my people are already dead. The children are safe but there are still people who need help! Please any one! Help us!”

“Hello!”

“Hello, yes, can you help my village?! Please!”

“Calm down, we are sending reinforcements, they should be there in two minuets. Can you estimate how many people are raiding your village?”

Her eyes widen, her breathing stopped, there it was again, that horrible retched feeling that has warned her about all of this. She slowly sets down the radio, and turns around facing the door.

“Hello! Miss? Are you there! Miss!”

She could hear her own heart beat to a constant rhythm, like the quiet yet suttle flow of a river. There he was, the tall dark figure standing in the doorway. This time she knew that he was here for her, as he slowly raised his hand she could see that he held a gun. And just like that he pulled the trigger, that horrible sound yet again came upon her ears. She had always wondered what it was like to die, but to her surprise it was more like simply lying down as if you were to fall into a deep sleep. She lied there, as the warmth slowly left her body, eyes wide, motionless watching the dark figure slowly fade into the darkness that filled her
eyes.

Semester Goals

So for my goals this year, I want to improve apon my useage of vocabulary in all of my writings. I will also improve on adding creativity in all parts of school. Finaly i will improve apon my studing habits, so i can keep the good grades that i have.

Reflection

Project Description:

For are Time Travelers project easy, we had to research the civilization that was given to us. We had to write why we decided to pick the object that we wanted to send back in time. We had to provide evidence about how this would improve the success of are civilizations.
Process:
We made a first draft of what we all ready knew about the civilization that we got. Then we took all the facts that we had and made it into a formal paper. After that we mostly just revised and a little more information.

Reflection:

I learned more about the Roman civilization, even thought I all ready knew a lot about them. I learned that Romans were way ahead of their time when it came to medical operations.

Throught the entire project I didn't have any problems, and if I had the chance to do it again I wouldn't have changed any thing.

Because of this project I have learned that its very important to not only revise your work your self, but to have others revise your work too.

Hero Project Reflection

1.How dose a Hero become a Hero?

I think that a person becomes a hero when they spend time with you, and help you out. Like if a friends older brother helps you out with school, and gives you advice, you could consider that person a hero.

2. Project Description

So The Hero In My Eyes project is a project where we interviewed a person who is a hero to us. Then we wrote a paper on a moment that we spent with are hero, that we thought was heroic. We had to remember the details that happened and then add them into that paper.

3. Process
So first we interviewed are hero and wrote the manuscript. From that manuscript we made a first draft, and added duologue form the manuscript. Then we did pier editing a few times until we got the final product.

4. Reflection

I learned that I can write some thing good, and it be fun. This project has helped me learned that its better to do your best the first time, so that you don't have as much work later.

5. Habits of Mind

Perspective

I used a perspective mind set so I could see what the reader would get out of the story. Also to make sure that it made sense and was easy to read. I also use a different Perspective when writing to see if the final product would end up the way I wanted it to, and it did.

Video games and Drawing

As I lead Alex into the living room, memories came to mind. Video games and drawing were the only things we use to talk about for hours on end. He had on dark blue baggy jeans, and a tan shirt with an oozy on it. So we finally sat down and I asked the first question, " So do you remember what we did the first time I came to your house?"

"... No," he let out a laugh, " I have horrible memory. But didn't we talk about video games?"

"Yeah, we did we also talked about drawing and then we played a few Xbox games." As I sat there looking at Alex I remembered every thing that happened that day. As soon as I walked in he said sorry about the mess, but his house looked exactly like my room so I felt at home. We sat down and he told me about a game he was thinking about making, and he pulled some pages out of a binder with drawings. He explained the stories behind the characters, and what they were going to wear, and every thing. Then he asked if I had ever played Dead or Alive and I had never played it so he wanted me to play. As soon as I saw the characters I remembered that I played a newer version at my friend house, but I didn't tell him. When we started playing I quickly killed his character, and I looked over at him.

His mouth was open and he looked awe-struck with his eyes popping out of his head. He said that this time he wouldn't hold back, and I knew that it was time for an epic battle. During the battle I looked over at Alex, all of his concentration was focused on the TV. He was biting his bottom lip and each time I hit his character his eyes grew narrower until the final blow was delivered. He threw his arms in the air and his dreads swung around like they had a mind of their own. I laughed so hard that I couldn't keep my eyes open, but when they did open he was laughing along with me.

"Oh, yeah next question. So do you remember what we did after we left your house?" I tried to act like I was just deep in thought instead of having a flash back.

"Ha, ahhhhh didn't we go out to eat?" he asked with one eyebrow raised.

"Na, we went with the church to sing to the elderly."

“YEAH! I remember that, we sang Christmas carols and talked to some interesting older people."

I remembered talking to this one man with Alex, he was talking about how much it sucked to be old. He told us to have as much fun as we could before we got old, and to not worry about the little things in life. Later on he talked about his son and his grand children, he explained that because of the grand children he couldn't live with his son because it would be too much. But he assured us that his son would get him out of there before he died, so he could get some real food.
"So," I continued "do you remember the first time we met?"
"Nope, but I do know that it was in children's church."

This was the only thing that I didn't remember, probably because it was so long ago. But we both had an interest in the question.

"How does it feel to know that you’re my Hero?"

"Surprised and honored, I feel and know that theirs a responsibility that comes with it. It’s very rewarding."

"Okay, last question. So did you ever think that you would be some ones hero?"

"Yeah, but more for like killing zombies and thing like that" I watch his face light up with joy as a smile jumped on his face, that's the Alex I know. When ever I have a problem, I know I can look to him for help.

Literary Devices Blog

Catching the signal from one of her friends, Angela brushed her skirt, took a deep breath and walked towards where he was sitting."what am I going to do?" she said under her breath. Its just him, why would he even cair about me. To him I'm just a no-body, I just have to stay calm. That was the only things she could think of, even if she tried she couldn't. As she slowly walked towards him the only thing she didn't like about him was the way he sat, he look like a drunk bum on the side of the road .But what girl could resist his charm? She was about three steps away when, THUD! she watched the world fall on to her face. Suddenly she felt a warm had lift her to her feet. She looks up and see him, "Th-Thank you" she said quietly.
"No problem, help a stranger and a stranger will help you. Well that's what my mother tell me. So are you okay?"
"I'll be fine, and thank you again i don't know what came over me"
"well I should walk you home, just to make sure you don't fall again. Is that okay?"
"I would love that."

My pledge

Ben Dillard

My breathing became slow, heavy and hard. The final words

were uttered from his lips, and my legs suddenly began to move

themselves. I swerved left and right running through the lunch

crowds, fixing my gaze on the one who had caused me to suffer so much

pain. I saw faces with mouths moving but no words coming out,

and when he saw me coming it was too late.

I had pounced up and taken him down. My arm was around his

neck as he fell to his knees. People crowded around yelling and

chanting, but to me it only sounded like faint whispers, as if two

people were talking in the room of a young baby who was going to

bead, right before the sky becomes dark with night. Tears filled my

eyes in what seemed like hours, but felt more like days. After that

my hearing slowly started to come back, and my eyes stopped

making the tears that filled my vision.

A teacher ran up and only asked me to let him go. I let him

go but punched him in the gut. I knew what was going to happen,

so I walked head on to my fate, straight towards the principle’s

office. And the funny thing is I wanted to see the principle, I was

hoping so much to see her.

When I got to her office, she was no where to be found. I

stood in front of the principles office with the still fresh tears on my

cheeks, and the school counselor found me and took me to her

office instead. I sat there wising that I would have just killed him, so

that way he could never do to any one what he did to me. I thought

about it some more, I would be doing the world a favor.

As soon as my mother came in to the room, I felt a wave of

disappointment come over me. The patterns in the floor even made

me feel as if I had done the worst crime that could be committed.

But from then on I vowed to myself to never through the first punch

again.

Sound

This is the link Here
When the crickets chirp, and the first bass beat drops. A image comes to mind, the image is an alien in his ship some where in a field. He decides to turn on the TV, and finds him self on MTV. So he changes the channel with a loud thump he ends up on an opera show, but he doesn't like it. Again he changes the channel and ends up on the ABC channel and hears them humm. The crickrts start up again, and the alien says something in his own languge that quites them down. He stands up and streaches, and his suit makes weaird noises adn pickes up the remote. He presses the button and the bass beat pounds, has he turns off the TV. He takes a few steps and then streaches again. The crickets start to chirp again and he talk's to them as if he were talking to a long lost friend. He continues his walk and sits on his bed, which makes his suit make its final squek. he lays his head down to go to sleep, and said his final good bye's. Then silence come over the field, and the alien drifts off into a deep sleep.

What I did over the weekend

I sat up, waiting for my eyes to ajust to the lighting in the room. I quickly remberd where we were, and why we are here. " Lord have mercy," I said as i looked for Lily." My whole body feels sore and stiff." Lily was making her bed as I was putting my feet on the floor. I never knew how much work went into making one jar of honey. "How long do you paln on us staying here?" I said in my drousy moring voice. Lily looked at the ground and said "Untill i know for sertin what happend to my mother, and we find out if August knew her."
So i went out to the kitchen, and beagn to make breakfast. I never in my entire life, would eat as much honey as these sisters eat. Its like they have it in every thing they use. But it is nice not having to go lookin for honey in the cupterts, and its one less thing on the shopping list. So I continude to make breakfast for the calander sister and Lily and me.
"Lily could you set the table, and get the sisters?" I said to Lily as she noded her head. I evenly divited the food, set a cloth on to the table, and put the pots and pans in the sink. They all sat down and marveled at the meal. August asked every one to bow their heads and close their eyes, as she lead us in a prayer. "Well just dont look at it, eat!" I slightly yelled, and we all ate with almost no words exchanged. But as soon as Lily finshed they began to talk to their little hearts content. I glanced at August and saw that the same thoughts were going through her head. And we finshed breakfast to start on a full days work.

My Favorite Fictional Hero

My favorite fictional hero is the Green lantern (John Stewarts). John was an architech and a veteran in the U.S Marine core who was picked by the Guardians as the old Green lanterns (Guy Gardner ) successor, because he was badly hurt. He is one of my favorite hero's because he has the power to do what ever he wants, and make any thing. And he still uses his powers to help people even though some times they don't want help. Like the first time he had to help some one it was a racist politician, John took advantage and advertised an accident to embarrass the politician. But he soon proved his worth when he stoped an assassin from shooting the politician. The thing that's s special about John is that he some times messes up, but he still comes back and fixes the problem. So to me he seems like a real person, who makes a mistake but then comes back and tries to fix them.
